July 10, 2020 – District 27 District Attorney Jack Thorp spoke with the Joplin Globe about how the Supreme Court’s ruling that restored nearly half of Oklahoma to the Muscogee (Creek) Nation will affect his jurisdiction.

According to the article, Thorp said he’s concerned that many of his cases will go back to square one, “And that makes me concerned for those victims.”

Thorp said major cases (murder, manslaughter, rape, assault with intent to kill, arson, burglary and larceny) involving a Native American defendant or victim may be required to be retried in tribal or federal court.
