Jury Finds Ode Guilty of First Degree Manslaughter

WAGONER, OK – District Attorney Jack Thorp for District 27 announced, On October 24, 2017, just before 7 PM, Jacob Ode, 19, of Wagoner, was found guilty by a Wagoner County jury of First Degree Manslaughter, in CF-2015-584.  The Jury recommended a sentence of twelve (12) years in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections and District Judge Darrell G. Shepherd set formal sentencing for November 28, 2017 at 1:30 PM. 

On November 26, 2015, Ode was involved in an altercation in the city of Wagoner where he took the life of Eric Hummingbird.  The investigation into this matter was conducted by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations.  Mike Fisher and Will Cosner represented the State of Oklahoma in prosecuting this matter. 

Thorp stated “This was a tragic case where Eric Hummingbird lost his life at the hands of Jacob Ode.  Our prosecutors spent countless hours preparing and presenting this matter to a Wagoner County jury.  I respect the jury’s decision in this case and my prayer is that the family of Eric Hummingbird can receive some closure with this outcome.”
